see double, the london based imprint headed by luca cazal and brigante, returns for its fifth outing, a three track ep from boris werner titled badabing badaboum. a club-ready package and staple of werner s recent sets, sd005 once again proves this amsterdam locals deep knowledge and understanding of how to move a dance floor. played by seth troxler and richy ahmed amongst others and tried and tested by both label boss cazal and werner on dc10s terrace throughout this summer, title track badabing badaboum is a bonafide club smasher. leading the charge with a hypnotic bell riff alongside a chugging 4/4 pulse, werner keeps a driving pace as sluggish and evolving low end theory enters the fray. a deftly constructed, energy filled arrangement progresses before indiscernible, tribal vocal chants take the fore, trading blows with a modulating acid bassline. on the flip werner delivers you snooze you looze, a tech-infused cut adorned with rolling subs, clinical percussion and a head-snapping rhythm. phased synthesis and dissonant sample work pushes the track into uncharted trippy territory, as processed vox stabs and crisp hi-hat patterns maintain momentum, leading to a deeply musical breakdown that offers a truly dynamic shift in mood. closing the ep is whooos in control, a lesson in atmosphere and groove, which sees spaced-out synths interplay with automated stabs. ethereal pads and warped fx float atop werners swung drum programming creating that perfect roller for those early morning moments. sd005 will be available soon in both digital and physical formats.

eye can see the darkness (in the end of the tunnel) is a shot of light in the dark cavern of a broken heart. blinded by the lights rips apart the heart-string orchestra rather than just pulling on the strings. a love ballad lost in the haze of the mid-summer, faded to blue and repackaged as a gentle and tender winter anthem. sharing the a-side with the lucid dreaming of jeremiah r on the drum-heavy remix.
on the flip, i am not him is a filter-squelching, bass-slapping meander into green haze territory, that finally erupts into a swagger of familiar detroit-channeled drums and steady faded pads. outernet grumbles up the black-hole cosmic radiation with an industrial-tinged number that plunges the depths of deep-space. proper growling and clanging synths to add the right amount of raw, just at the end.

alexis tyrel’s man in the sky introduces itself as a no-nonsense kick and riff driven track. although simple in nature, it is a bold and distinct. the track zeros in on the very memorable riff and the different adaptations of it that play throughout. changes in key, timbre and depth give this piece an eerie vibe in places and a funky vibe in others.

it is very difficult to present david duriez without writing an encyclopedic tome as its influence on the house music in france was decisive. since its inception in 1992, david released over a hundred records under his name, tens under various pseudonyms, mainly on vinyls on the most renowned labels like 2020vision, ovum, systematic, pokerflat, f communication, under the counter, stickman, crosstown rebels, the end, etc .. (the list is long, see discogs.com to be convinced) and as many remixes for some of the greatest artists (think moby, dj sneak, gemini, dj hell, llorca, telex, random factor, johnny fiasco, paul johnson, jori hulkkonen, ralph lawson, random factor, kenny hawkes or mr.c). founder of the label brique rouge and a whole galaxy of other labels, he participated in the creation of internationally recognized labels such as robsoul with phil weeks, freak n chic with dan ghenacia (from apollonia) or rz muzik. at a time when david had federated online the cream of the house producers via a forum (far and long before social networks), ivan smagghe had nicknamed him -the producer of the producers.- , a true house music activist, but most of all david duriez is a devastating dancefloor dj, he did several tours around the world and played in some of the biggest clubs in the world between 1995 and 2010. truly one of the most important players in the french electro scene, david is back on tracks after a few years hyatus. but don t call it a comeback because he has never really gone awol, he has been watching the scene and now he s back in the studio. you can expect a (very) long serie of releases for 2016, you have been warned!

stasis005 is another vinyl issue of elysia crampton s digital work, following stasis003, the bound adam 2011 7inch. it is the first pressing of the light that you gave me to see you, originally released under the name e+e. the arrangements were conceived between 2011 and 2012, and the l.p. was finally assembled in 2013, while the artist was homeless in los angeles, california. this edition also includes a previously unreleased bonus track, troll song, which originates from the same period. as with bound adam 2011, the art is by felix lee, and the master is by brandon hocura.

following his acclaimed north bend album of 2015, chris roman, known as 214, is back on shipwrec with the third in their series of single sided odysseys. a haze of bass descends for -i see what you did there-, a clipped drizzle of percussion falls before thick acid bars tremble into position. echoes, reverb and decay merge, groan and bend as the preconceptions of ambient, electro and techno are pulled apart. in one breath dense and complex, the next grooving and future funk dipped. an epic example of 214 s talent. single sided 12- with a silkscreen printed b side. limited to 250 copies on transparant vinyl.

the crate-digging credentials of psychemagik’s danny mclewin are well established. even so, he’s excelled himself with the first release on spacetalk, a joint venture with leng records’ simon purnell and paul murphy.
the trio have successfully worked together a lot over the last five years, with purnell and murphy releasing a string of superb collections, compiled by mclewin and psychemagik partner tom coveney. all three men were keen to continue this partnership, and have founded spacetalk to re-release long forgotten, little-known or overlooked music, as well as previously unheard archive material from some of the artists involved.
the label’s first release is as obscure as they come. morrison kincannon’s to see one eagle fly is stupidly rare, having initially been released by its’ creators as a private press record during the early 1970s.

as one of the most exciting talents rising out of the uk, there is no better time for dc-10 resident richy ahmed to team up with new yorks seminal house imprint, strictly rhythm, and release * cant you see ep*. opening with a hard-hitting 4/4 beat * cant you see* features a funk-laden walking bassline adding fluidity to the mix, calling on the sound of the 80s and bringing it in to the present day. analog synth sounds are peppered amongst bluntly cut vocal samples, drawing inspiration from the clinical elements of techno, yet retaining the groove that ahmeds work is rapidly becoming synonymous with. the eps second track is ahmeds remix of logics 1990 classic * the warning*. the originals acapella has been repurposed by ahmed, looming over the tracks driving percussive elements. with a low-slung bassline interchanging with sizzling hi-hats, the remix pulls the original away from its blissed-out roots and firmly into the warehouse, providing new meaning to one of the legendary strictly rhythm’s many classic club anthems.

as its name suggests *afromance i* encompasses luca cazals african ardor with upbeat vocals and a heady rhythm for an energetic cut of disco influenced analog techno. brigante proposes a couple of dj tools to the release. *kehinde tool* where the vox is chopped and raw sounding percussion joins a subtle sub-bass throb, as opposed to the more electronic tipped *taiwo tool* that enforces a playful hook and intricate drum work.
